Sometimes a picture does not speak a thousand words, a smell does. This is especially true with slow cooker / crockpot meals as they are often the ugly ducklings of food and so don’t always feature in glossy magazines and high end food blogs. When it comes to these slow cooked BBQ ribs, I can’t ignore the ultimate convenience and rich taste that a slow cooker imparts for the sake of a pretty photo, so here’s my ugly ribs!
Anyone who has cooked this way knows that rich, earthy smell of something that has been simmering away for 6 or 8 hours or more. The neighbours are even drooling.
In this simple recipe, I use my Homemade Sugar Free BBQ Sauce to add a deep smokey flavour to the ribs. If you haven’t made this sauce yet, you can use a store bought sugar free and low carb BBQ sauce. But trust me, by the time you find a suitably low carb BBQ sauce from the shop, you could’ve made this one!
The slow cooker is my saviour in winter or weeks where I am really busy, especially with after work commitments. I work full time in addition to creating recipes for this blog, so if there’s anything I can do to put a hearty meal on the table quickly, I will do it!
Slow Cooked Keto BBQ Ribs
Quick to prepare and full of flavour after simmering away for 8 hours, these succulent ribs will be falling off the bone
- 1 kg pork ribs
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 6 tablespoons homemade sugar free BBQ sauce or store bought
- 1 cup water
In a large frying pan, heat the olive oil to medium heat. Brown the ribs lightly.
Place the ribs in the slow cooker and slather with the BBQ sauce. You want a little bit on the underside, but most of it on the top.
Pour 1 cup of water into the bottom of the slow cooker and set to low heat for 8 hours.
Could it get any easier?
