What Are Good Keto Diet Sodas?

What Are Good Keto Diet Sodas?

Being on a keto-based diet, you may be wondering what kind of beverages you can still drink. While it sounds like a great idea to stick to water, it is not always realistic.

Drinking water is very important on a keto diet, especially when you first begin. Staying hydrated is a really good way of looking after your body as it becomes used to the restriction of carbohydrates.

Water is also completely free of any carbs, and is generally really good for you. However, kicking the habit of soda can be difficult, especially seeing as going keto is like going cold turkey.

If you are looking to find out what are good keto diet sodas, then you have come to the right place. Here we shall take a look at some of the diet soda options on a keto diet, as well as what other beverages are okay to drink.

What To Look For When Choosing A Keto Diet Soda?

While you might be tempted to drink any old soda, you need to be careful with your choices on keto. The aim is to choose low to zero-carb food and drinks.

For any carbohydrates that you do consume, you will need to make sure that it is in your daily allowance range for carbs.

When you pick up a soda, check the nutritional information. It should contain no more than 5 grams of sugar and no more than 20 calories that come from carbohydrates.

If you stick to this, then you should be okay!

Can You Drink Diet Soda On Keto?

A hot debate in the keto world is whether you can drink soda or not. However, so long as they are low on carbohydrates, there should be no problems at all.

Many keto-specific prepackaged foods often have sweeteners in them. Some of these include Xylitol, Stevia, sucralose, and erythritol. These carb-free versions help to make food taste better!

Going full keto does not means that you have to give up everything you love. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at some of the delicious sodas that you can still enjoy on keto.

Diet Coke

Diet Coke is a great option as it has zero calories. Enjoy it poured of ice for a refreshing experience.

Coke Zero

If you prefer a Coke Zero, then this is another no-carb option.

Diet Pepsi

Diet Pepsi is another black-colored beverage that you can enjoy on keto. It is also a great alternative to something like Diet Coke, despite it looking exactly the same.

Zevia

Zevia is a great option if you want to drink something other than Coke or Pepsi. It can provide you with a beverage that is both bubbly and fruity.

It is based on no-carb sweeteners such as Stevia extract and erythritol. It allows those who are trying to get away from soda something else to enjoy.

Sparkling Water

Another alternative is sparkling water. If you are thinking about drinking a diet soda but are not quite there yet, then this healthier alternative is a great choice.

It allows you to enjoy a carb-free fizzy drink without any of the added ingredients – in fact, there are minimal extra ingredients in sparkling water anyway.

If you would prefer some flavor, then why not add some delicious fruit? Berries or lemon slices will do the trick. You can also buy flavored sparkling water, but be aware of added sugar and sweeteners.

What Is The Best Drink On Keto?

Without a doubt, water will always be the best choice when it comes to hydrating on keto. In fact, water is hands down the best form of hydration – ever!

It is not surprising either. Water has no carbs and it is ridiculously good for you. However, it is not surprising that you sometimes want a little bit more when it comes to feeling refreshed and hydrated.

If you do want to stick to just water, then why not add some fruity flavor? You can do this by dropping in some berries or chopping slices of lime and lemons into your water.

Follow this up with some ice cubes for an all-around refreshing experience. You can also swap out the still water for sparkling for extra refreshment.

What Else Can You Drink On Keto?

While plain water will always be hands-down the best drink to hydrate with on keto, you can consume other beverages too. Some of these include:

Plain Tea

So long as you keep the tea completely plain – that means no milk or sugar – then you will find that you can drink it virtually carb-free. This is because, while it may include carbohydrates, it will be a very tiny amount.

Plain Coffee

If you cannot give up your coffee during your morning commute, then you may want to start taking your own. Not only will it save you some dollars, but you will also be able to make a keto-friendly coffee.

Black coffee is the best way to keep it virtually carb-free. Avoid any milk, creamers, syrups, and sugars.

Nut Milk

A low-carb milk substitute comes from nuts. Almond milk, for example, has less than a gram of carbohydrates for every cup worth.

However, do make sure that it is unsweetened, as this will add extra carbs.

Final Thoughts

Staying hydrated is very important when you are on keto (though this is also true in general). However, when you stop eating carbohydrates, your body will be craving hydration. This is due to the fact you are ‘moving’ into ketosis.

Water has other benefits too, such as making you feel full to help you stop reaching for the snacks at 3 pm. Though, as you go through a carb withdrawal, you will be thankful to your body that it is staying hydrated.

If you are craving a fizzy alternative, then you will be happy to know that reaching for a diet soda here and there is absolutely fine. Just make sure that it is not something that you are doing all day, every day!
